Normally, you cannot change WordPress username of default username in WordPress via users setting. As you can see, in username field you’ll found “usernames cannot be changed”. However, it’s not impossible to change WordPress default username.

How to Change WordPress Default Username in phpMyadmin
First, you need to login to your phpMyadmin and select your database table of your installed WordPress.Then, you need to click on database name to expand all table within it.
Find the wp_users table and click on it (step 2). In wp_users you’ll see all users of your website, it’s look similar to an image below.
Then, click “edit” in front of the user that’s you need to edit username (step 3).
After click edit, you will get in to table as an image below. To change WordPress username login, just change username value of user_login as you want (step 4).
Select “Save” (step 5), and click “Go” to save your setting.
How to Change WordPress Default Username
In case you want to change WordPress default username by phpMyadmin, you need to follow 5 simply steps.
Step 1 – Go to WordPress database table
Login to phpMyadmin and select your database table of your website.
Step 2 – Select “wp_users” table
Select “wp_users” table and click on it.
Step 3 – Edit user
Click “edit” in front of user that’s you want to edit username.
Step 4 – Change value of user_login row
Change username value of user_login as you want.
Step 5 – Save
Select “save”, and click “go” to execute the command.
